Ohhh Valentine’s Day. I was never a big fan, even when I was just another lovestruck idiot. I would use it as an excuse to eat somewhere nice at first, but then I realized I would rather spend quality time with my person at home, since my job requires me to be in restaurants all the time. Not that I’m complaining, mind you, but the allure has gotten lost on me somewhat over the years.
When I did a “Valentine’s Day” search on my blog, it appears I either deleted the posts from when I had a bf, or I just always kinda hated this holiday. I’m leaning towards the latter. That post I just linked to is from 10 friggin years ago. Yikes. Also, not much has changed, except that Lil Bub the cat is dead (RIP).
So for the last few years (or the ones I can remember, because my short term memory is trash), I just did “Chinese food and a movie” as my big Vday plans. Coupled up or not, it’s something I enjoy, regardless of another human being there.
When you have the dating track record that I do, you try not to create more situations where you might feel extra lonely. So if you enjoy something with a person, try it by yourself, see how it goes. You might be pleasantly surprised to find out that you don’t actually need someone else to enjoy it. In fact, I’m pretty sure that’s how they came up with masturbating.
But I digress. I was thinking about changing up my tradition this year, and thought I’d do a whole “spa day” kinda thing at home. But then I couldn’t get the idea of another sketch out of my head, so I thought about the “butter candle” trend that’s been going around the last couple months on TikTok and IG, and I thought…well now here’s an opportunity to make fun of not one, but two things! You can’t pass that up. Here’s some BTS if you missed it.
My friend and very funny comedic writer Deanna helped me put together this idea (follow her if you aren’t already). It started out as just a butter candle bath experience, then somehow snowballed into butter candles in a bread boat, on a board (as an ode to the original butter board that started this whole nightmare), in the bath. And THEN…Deanna suggested we hire a sax player to enhance the experience. So thank you to Connell Thompson for being a part of this one. Watch below:
Would love to know what your Vday traditions are! Leave a comment here.
And as always, if you liked the video on IG, share it or tag a friend who might appreciate it. That’s the most helpful thing and I’ll continue to say it so get used to it. :)
Happy Vday everyone! DON’T FORGET IT’S HALF OFF CANDY DAY TOMORROW IN MOST DRUGSTORES.
